I got the cheese

Was out very very late last night singing karaoke with a group of people, including
phaballa and
charlotteschaos. SO much fun! There's nothing like belting out lounge standards, 80s ballads, and gangster rap with a bunch of drunk people in your own private room.
And whee, Star Wars marathon on Cinemax today! Up to ROTJ. I assume TPM is next? I'm surprised they're playing them in release order instead in story order. Luke is battling the rancor at the moment. I love the rancor keeper, and how he sobs when his pet is killed. I had an action figure of him when I was a kid.
I'm on the fence about the revised versions. (I can totally understand why GL would want to go back and redo things, because I've read old fics of mine and been tempted to do some rewriting.) I do like the updated FX, especially in the space battles. I think that's a genuine improvement. But some of the new material just looks cheesy and out of place, like the new musical number in Jabba's chamber. It's a bit cringe-worthy, and I don't like the fact that it's played for laughs. It diminishes the impact of the Twi'lek dancer being thrown to the rancor.
It's also interesting to me that ANH and ESB were pretty good in the "show, don't tell" department, but starting with ROTJ, there's an awful lot of Captain Exposition dialogue.
Wow, I forgot Carrie Fisher was ever that young. And geez, I still know all the dialogue after all this time!
