I read somewhere that vampires could breathe if they wanted to because they still had lungs and had the diaphragm to make them work, and that explained Spike's (and others') smoking. Of course, that would imply that Angel could perform CPR if he really wanted to. And he was definitely breathing when he crawled out of his grave. So yeah, bzuh?
