"It has been my observation that Nice People in fandom have popularity and staying power. Nice people are not always sugary sweet, or unrealistically wonderful. Nice People are real people. Sometimes they don't pull punches, but they know when to wear the gloves. Nice People mind their own business when it needs to be minded and step up to speak out when they need to step up. Nice People don't inspire hate mongering or vendettas. However, Nice People can be real enough to admit when they have witnessed something stupid in fandom. Nice People don't have to have the last word, the last laugh, the last comment, the first comment, or the adoration of an entire fandom. Nice People inspire and not squelch."
