In the midst of lots of recent interviews with JKR in which she's talked about the futures of the characters (occasionally contradicting herself and canon) and answering questions that were unanswered in the books, I'm curious:

For the record, I'm in the "no" camp. IMO canon is the books, period. Everything else (including new material in the films) is interesting and potentially useful in fic and art, but isn't canon. But that's just me, of course. What do you think?

Edit: Just to clarify, I personally separate "that which is called canon" from "that which one can write fic about". I don't think that defining canon as being one thing or another restricts or determines what you can write fic about. It just forms a basis we can all use to talk about the books.
