It's a small fandom world

Last night, phaballa, stargategirl82 and I went to Book People to see The Remus Lupins play, which was awesome! The place was full of fangirls, and I was milling about beforehand and giving people Portus buttons and postcards. Two funny things happened.

I walked up to a woman in a bustier and handed her the card and she said, "Oh, cool. Will it mostly be porn?" I managed not to crack up laughing -- I said, "Well, not all of it, but... you know." It turns out she's in another fandom I'd never heard of, and I encouraged her to check out HP stuff online. I loved the fact that she just assumed it would be okay to ask me that straight off, though!

There were a pair of girls sitting close to the stage and when I asked them if they'd heard of Portus, one of them said "Oh, I went to Phoenix Rising!" So I was immediately, "What's your LJ name?" because there was at least a chance we'd know each other. She said, with a sort of sheepish look on her face, "Well, I'm not really... I'm sort of into... slash." And I immediately pointed over to the corner Phaballa and Sara and I had staked out and said, "We're slashers!" She looked sort of stunned! I had a small stash of slashcast buttons that I was handing out very selectively, so I gave her one, and she said, "Oh, are you one of the hosts of Slashcast? I was in a meta chat on Slashcast once!"

And it turned out to be jcho, who was in the episode 4 meta chat on age in fandom. 0_0

Isn't that crazy?
