All right, I've had it. No more anonymous commenting on this journal.
For as long as I've had this journal, it's been open. I've always let anyone comment, and I have never even considered going friends-only, mostly because there are more people who read this LJ than I can possibly friend back. I've always appreciated getting feedback and comments from anyone who reads what I post here, not just LJ users. I flock infrequently, only when I post about things that are very personal.
But I'm tired of idiots anonymously making petty, judgmental, and even mean comments on my personal posts. If you don't like something I post about, fine, but say it to my face. People disagree with me on my journal all the time, and we have great conversations as a result. I don't insist that everyone agrees with me, just that they are honest, literate, and thoughtful when they do disagree1. Own your own words and express yourself well, and even those who disagree with you will respect your right to your own opinion. Hiding your comments behind the word "anonymous" indicates you don't really have much faith in your own ideas. Either that or I'm so intimidating you fear my reprisal. Whatever.
By the way (because it's apparently easy to forget), the person behind this journal is a real human being, with thoughts and feelings just like everyone else. There's no reason I should continue to allow asshats to make abusive comments about me, my friends, my hobbies, or my life on my own LJ.
So from now on, you have to have an LJ account to comment here. I'm sorry if that inconveniences anyone, but hey -- they're easy to get.
1Using proper punctuation and grammar in your comments helps me to take you seriously. If you disagree with me in netspeak, I'm probably going to ignore you. At best, I'll consider you not very bright or very, very young.
