1. What country do you most want to visit next?

Well, Australia is probably at the top of the list. I've only been to Sydney, and that was just for a few days, so I haven't seen much. We'd like to rent a car and drive around for a few weeks, making sure we hit the wine country, of course. I've got old UWP friends there I haven't seen in ten years. But that countries-I-want-to-go-to list is long, and where we end up going typically has more to do with which flights have frequent flier seats open than anythinig else!

2. Opera: yes or no

Yes, actually. Years ago when we were first dating, MDH took me to my very first opera, "The Marriage of Figaro." I wore a black cocktail dress and felt so incredibly grown up and sophisticated. The atmosphere felt magical, and that night, while we were making love, he told me he loved me for the first time. How could I not love opera after that? Favorite opera: "Madame Butterfly" -- it's just so deliciously angsty!

3. Favorite m&m color

Green, probably. Mostly because there was so much folklore associated with green m&ms when I was a kid. Eating one could do anything from granting your next wish to making you horny. Of course, I haven't eaten an m&m in a long time. Now that I'm doing this low-carb thing, I don't know when I'll see one again!

4. Favorite silver screen actor

Well, is Ewan McGregor too obvious? I really do like him a lot, and liked him for his acting long before I ever noticed that he was pretty damn hot. Other favorite actors: I think Nicole Kidman is amazing, I think Johnny Depp is underrated, I've always admired Tom Hanks, and I firmly believe that Julianne Moore is the most talented female actor of her generation.

5. What's the best book you've read lately? (I've got a book fetish these days)

Hee! The only non-academic books I've read lately are the Harry Potter series, so which of those is my favorite? Probably Prisoner of Azkaban, because it is such a wonderfully structured and complex mystery. I read the first two books, thinking, "oh, these are nice stories and I can see why kids like them." But PoA blew me away. I really loved OotP as well, but it didn't have the impact of PoA. After that one, I was sucked into the fandom completely.

Oops. I guess I wasn't clear enough. I meant "silver screen actor" as in "back in the good old days" -- glamour, black and white, pre 1950s.

Nicole Kidman can act, but unfortunately she doesn't do it often enough in her movies. But I just saw "The Hours." Seriously good. And it has Julianne Moore, too!

And Johnny Depp is underrated? By whom? He is always in top-quality movies, and he seems to be highly regarded.

"Madame Butterfly" -- major tearjerker. I still sob like hell whenever I hear Un bel di vedremo -- now that I know what the words mean. It is so fucking sad. I wanna kill that Pinkerton bastard!
