I've been watching the news reports about what's happening in New Orleans with increasing horror, as everyone else has. I've almost posted a few times, but I really couldn't think of anything to add to what everyone else is saying -- who needs to read another rant against the US government, after all?

And besides, [livejournal.com profile] dorrie6 has said it better than I ever could. So if you like, go read that and know that I'm nodding along with it.

I was watching CNN a while ago and I was shocked with the destruction. They were showing all these images (from an helicopter I think) and it was just horrible. I wish I could think of other words, but horrible is all I can think about. Those poor people. :(

And, sorry to ask, but what about the US Government? *blushes* Our news report about the hurricane, but not about... the government's measures and such.

I know that at first I refrained from making a post about what's been going on, but finally I just had enough of it the government's blatant lack of regard for the environment and fellow humans and blatant racism. Then also figured that in order to spark change and really get it blazing is to rant and rave so that others know that they're not alone in their anger and request for change. If we want this country to get better then we all have to speak up and it'll take many many voices saying the same thing over and over in order for the request and plea to be heard. Please don't take that as sounding preachy, I just wanted to let you know that in a case like this...I (and I'm sure many other people) would be happy to see your rant post, cuz it would mean that others see the problem and want a change for the better as well.

I'm nodding along with that post too.

I've been reading updates from the katrinacane lj community, which is pretty horrifying. That com as told me alot more of what's been happening then the news has.

Precisely. Because until today, the government did NOTHING.

Yes, that's precisely what I don't understand... I mean, the US usually helps countries and/or areas that were affected by catastrophes and they seem... well efficient. But now the government can't (or won't don't know which) deal with their own crisis? *blinks* Really, this is weird.

I haven't posted anything in my own journal, if only because the more I read the less incoherantly I can type. I'm at the point where I'd willing pick a fight with an asshat (and I've seen them around, particularly in a [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes post where the quoter was congratulating Dubya for being the first president in living memory to lose a city). It just... arg. There's so much that could have been done to stop this and a hell of a lot more that can still be done to make things better, and I don't see our government doing anything. In fact, they seem to be saying that things are going well! I don't call a city still full of people who have been trapped for days and might still die because help hasn't reached them, among other things, "doing well".

hey. totally with you on that one.
i'm from israel, and while i hate practicaly everything my government does, we do have some experience with disasters, and we look after our own.
what the hell are those people thinking? if you don't know what you're doing, get somebody who does!
letting people die out of sheer stupidity should be a hanging offense.

I can always use another rant against our (ineffective) government right now. Thanks for the reference - went and read - AMEN, sister, amen.
