Mainly just a lurker on your journal, but I know your a Texas resident with a big heart, so I thought I'd mention this.

Offer free housing to Hurricane Refugees (http://www.hurricanehousing.org/). They're filling all the stadiums faster than the buses are making it out of NO. Anyone with a spare bed, a couch, or even some floorspace would probably be welcome.
