In the crazines of the last month, I have somehow completely forgotten to post recent fics here. If you follow me anywhere else, you might know that I'm pretty obsessed with Check, Please! now. It's that webcomic about hockey you keep seeing everyone squee about, with cute boys and baking and so much wonderful UST that isn't queerbaiting, for once? Positivity meme, day 5

A bit late on this one, but it's cool because I actually have so much positive stuff today that it was hard to narrow it down to 3! So here, have ~~five~~ seven. :-)

1. I just dropped my 6yo son off for his first day of a Star Wars-themed drama class. They'll be working on a stage version (!) of "Return of the Jedi" this fall. He loves Star Wars in that cute way little boys do, and he's so excited. I am so jealous I can barely stand it. I want to do it!! Why don't they have these things for adults?? I mean, I guess I could join a LLARP group, but still. I will have to live vicariously through him these next few months.

2. DH had his first colonoscopy this morning. Those are unpleasant enough, but his dad is a survivor of stage 4 colon cancer, so naturally DH was really terrified that they'd find something. The results were 100% fine, though, and we were all very relieved!

3. My "Let's make room for moderate opinions" post on Tumblr yesterday was really well-received, to my great surprise. Of course, I have no idea if it will go anywhere. I would love to work up the nerve to post something about TJLC, but I'm still not sure how it would go.

4. I posted another chapter of "The Hollow Now" yesterday, and it was also very well-received. I'm pleased with how it turned out, and so, so grateful for the amazing beta work that

drinkingcocoa does. I've always made an effort to power through WIPs and post chapters once a week, but this time I'm not doing that. I'm taking my time and posting when a chapter is ready. And damn if I'm not enjoying that! It's so much less stressful this way.

5. I got edits made on my original short story for the New Smut Project Anthology and turned that in. I'm pleased with how that story turned out. I may occasionally try to write short things to submit for publication, just for the hell of it. :-)

6. Slowly working on getting DH to agree to adopt a kitten to be a playmate for our new kitty Plum. She's driving our elderly cat crazy, and many people have told me that was the solution that finally worked for them in this situation. Our local shelter has SO MANY little black kittens right now, and I can't help wondering if any of them are Plum's babies!

7. I am sitting in a Starbucks with a green tea frappuccino while BG is in his drama class, so bonus time to write! I'm currently working on a draft of something special for a friend's recent birthday, so hopefully I can make some progress on that this afternoon.

Positivity meme, day 4

1. My mom and I often joke that we are mentally connected. Over the years, we've had many, many incidents that made us think that, and today there were two more. I went to lunch with DH, and on the way I said, "Wouldn't it be great if my mom came for a visit this fall?" It had just hit me, out of the blue, that she hasn't been out here in two years. Within 15 minutes, my mom texted me and said, "I'm thinking of coming to visit you this fall" and asked what weekends would work for us. Later that afternoon, I picked up my phone and thought, "I should call mom, but I'm not sure if she's off work yet." Ten seconds later, my phone rang -- it was her. This happens to us A LOT. I haven't lived in the same state as her since I was 18, so it's cool to think of us as connected... even if I don't believe in anything supernatural.

2. I took a carload of stuff to a kids' resale shop, and they took very little of it. That was a bummer, but I decided to come home and offer up two of the larger items on our neighborhood social networking site (we use Nextdoor.com, and it's a huge improvement over the old yahoo group). Within half an hour our doorbell rang: it was a family who wanted to buy one of the items and just decided to stop by. So that was cool!

3. I think I've finally decided that the professional writing thing isn't for me. A year ago, I decided to give it a serious try, and I set aside time and everything, but... I haven't really accomplished much.

Positivity meme, day 3

1. I spent a good chunk of yesterday and today cleaning out and reorganizing BG's playroom. It had become a space that we just shoved toys into and shut the door, and he hasn't been able to use it as a play space much at all in recent months. Part of the problem was that the room was dominated by a train table that he hasn't really used in years, and it was covered with toys that needed to be put away. Hell, the entire FLOOR was covered with toys that needed putting away. You could barely walk in there. But I spent a good 8-10 hours on it over the weekend, and it's now an open space he can play in. We ended up keeping all the train stuff, ironically enough: once we got the table out of the room and cleared the floor, one of the first things BG wanted to do was set up an elaborate network of train tracks. I realized that the table had limited his train play, rather than given him a space for it. Anyway, he's been happily playing with trains and legos for hours now, and it's amazing. Tomorrow I'm making a trip to IKEA for a few more things I need to finish the organization, and then I'll post pictures. :-)

2. We went to our favorite local ramen joint for lunch today for the first time in months, and OH SO GOOD. BG ate an entire adult portion. It was insane. I don't have a clue where he put it.

3. The cats continue to have territorial standoffs, but it's slowly getting better. The new cat (Plum) is not allowed in the bedroom at night, which gives the old cat (Lucy) a chance to cuddle in peace. During the day, Lucy sleeps somewhere and only emerges to eat, while Plum follows us around and plays and is generally entertaining. So it's kind of like we have a night cat and a day cat!

Plum is actually really sweet and cuddly when Lucy isn't around.

Positivity meme, day 2

1. Finally decided to take control of my fandom fatigue and create a new sorta-secret Tumblr account. I have no idea yet how much I'll use it, but the idea is to create a sort of "filtered" dash of blogs that make me happy. I will probably mostly be reblogging stuff there, but maybe I will work up the nerve to have an opinion under a name that isn't directly connected with me. :-P

2. BG's playdate yesterday afternoon was a success. He had so much fun having a friend over and can't wait to do it again. We have this huge house and big yard and tons of toys and a trampline and a swimming pool and a movie room, and basically could entertain kids for years. I really need to get off my anti-social introverted ass and invite people over more often.

3. I went to a neighborhood knitting meet-up yesterday, and actually had fun! Oh, and one of the women in the group is in the Sherlock fandom, whihc blew my mind! She is mostly active on Ravelry, and I didn't tell her my fandom identity, but still, it was cool to be able to talk to someone about fandom in that context. :-)

Positivity meme (Day 1)

No one tagged me for this, but I don't care. Doing it anyway!

Rules: During the next five days, post three positive things about your day and ask three people to do the same so the positive attitude can gain some ground.

1. I forgot to set my alarm last night, which could have been a disaster, but the new kitty Plum sat outside the bedroom door and meowed loudly enough to wake me only 15 minutes later than I would normally have gotten up. Yay for alarm kitties!

2. Since we were running late, I had to drive C to school this morning. (We usually walk.) He was grumpy about this, but I turned it into a game in which the car was a spaceship and he was an astronaut being delivered to a space station. When we arrived at school, he was "jettisoned" out of the "airlock" with his "life support pack" and then "floated" over to the "airlock" of the "space station" to report for duty. It's the little parenting successes, sometimes. :-)

3. In about an hour and a half, I'm going to a local knitting meetup for the first time. I have no idea what to expect, but I'll take the socks I'm working on and try my best to be social.
