Aeternitas?

Is anyone thinking of going to Aeternitas in New Hampshire next spring? I'm really intrigued by the idea of a small con that fills an entire hotel, heh -- no Muggles! And it's even in a place that has a chance of being cool enough that you could run around in house robes and not risk heat stroke!

But I would only go if a bunch of people I know (read: slashers) are going too. Registration opens in about a week, and it's limited to 475 people. I'll probably go ahead and register anyway, because it's cheap ($90). The rooms are cheap too. Actually, the whole thing looks fairly reasonable, comparatively speaking. (I may even try to organize that Slashers' Common Room...)

I guess this is a sort of informal poll to see who is thinking about registering. Who's in?

Please feel free to pass this on to others who might be interested, even if you aren't!

I'm seriously thinking about going, because I live in Boston and it's in NH. It's practically spitting distance!

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, that would be an easy drive for you!

[identity profile] gmth.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I really want to go, but the timing couldn't be worse. It's the weekend after my son's spring break and we were planning to go to Disney World/WWoHP, so I don't know if I can afford both. Also, it's Thursday through Sunday in the middle of the school year, which means I don't know what I'd do with my son for the two school days. I'm not comfortable leaving him alone at home yet. I could do just the weekend, but it's a hell of a long drive just for one full day (Saturday). So I'm struggling, as you can see...

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It is inconvenient to be during the school year, yeah. I'd have to cancel a day of classes (or else schedule exams that day and find someone else to administer them, heh.)

OTOH, if it's during the school year, I wonder if that would raise the average age of the attendees a bit? I have no idea.

If I go, it will be the first trip leaving my son home (with my husband). He'll be 3 by then, so it'll be a lot more feasible than it's been up until now. Unless DH suddenly has to go to Asia that weekend, in which case I'd have to scramble a bit. :-P

I hope you can make it! It would be awesome to see you!

Possibly, possibly...I'm doing a poll too!

Are you? Ooh!

*is already salivating thinking of the panels we could organize*

[identity profile] romaine24.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't but the area is spectacular. It's where On Golden Pond was filmed. I lived nearby for a few years.

BTW I am so excited that you are BACK!!!

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, lovely! A bunch of us were reminiscing about The Witching Hour last week, and how awesome it was to be able to have a con when it was cool outside. I know there could be a freak heat wave, but I'm guessing it's not going to be terribly warm there in April?

My muse has come back, which has been awesome. And my little guy is 2.5 now, which means I have a little bit more time on my hands than I have for the last couple of years. ;-)

That looks really nice actually. Sounds calm. lol Ive been at ComicCon for since thursday and will be till sunday. Calm sounds really nice right now.

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It does sounds calm, doesn't it?

A bunch of us went to Wrockstock a few years ago, which was primarily about the wrock, but we went in together and got a cabin (it was at this interesting lodge in the woods) and made it the slash cabin. We spent more time hanging around the cabin and talking slash than we did going down to listen to the music, but it was awesome and definitely relaxing.

I guess I'm imagining this could be something similar, but with a lot more slash. :-)

I've wibbled back and forth a few times, but haven't completely decided if I'm going or not. At least in part, it will depend upon how many people I know are going.

BTW, it was great to meet you at Infinitus. I've friended you, so I can keep in touch.

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'm going to take the plunge and register, and then try to convince more people to go!

Have friended back. :-)

I'm in. And so is [livejournal.com profile] reddwarfer. I'm sure more people will trickle in - I don't think most people even knew about it.

The timing will be hard for teachers, and people who don't have someone to watch their kids, but Phoenix Rising was around the same time a couple years ago. I couldn't go to that one because I was having surgery. :-P

As for the weather, I've gone skiing several times up in New England in late April and May - once we even went at Killington in June! I don't think there'll be actual snow on the ground over there - in the mountains maybe. It should be pretty nice though. If it doesn't rain. :-P

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome!

Yeah, the timing isn't the best, but I usually teach Tuesday and Thursday, so I should only have to figure out what to do for one class day.

Ooh, the idea of being able to wear robes and not suffer...

[identity profile] coffeejunkii.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
hmm, that is a really bad time that close to the end of the semester! so i probably can't go because of that :(. i'm also considering going to the con in canterbury, so i'd probably save my money for that.

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, end of semester is tough. I would love to go to DiaCon Alley, but I don't know if I'll be able to swing it next year.

I would like to go, but next year is hopefully going to be an expensive travel year already - "hopefully" in that I am looking forward to spending a few grand on a trip to Ireland for myself and my husband if everything comes together - and as that's speculatively in June and this is at the end of April, I just don't know if it's going to be possible.

I would love to go! Thanks to you and Beth for posting about it. It's a great excuse to get up to New England and try and convince lots of old fandom friends I haven't seen in ages to come along. :D

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Woot! This is going to be so awesome!

[identity profile] reddwarfer.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm definitely going. Me and Lisa (midnitemaraud_r) want to go, because it's close to home and beautiful there.

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! So excited!

[identity profile] freckles42.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't even know about it before now and it's an easy drive from Boston! It's also a few weeks after my birthday, so I think I might be able to actually swing it - any con that's driving distance is a very likely event for me since travel is really the biggest cost for me generally.

ETA: Just checked it out and looked at the prices - very, very reasonable! And probably worth it to get a suite/HUGE room because for four people that works out to an extra $35 for the weekend vs the cheapest room at quad occupancy. Laconia's only about 2 hours from my part of Boston, which is great.

I definitely want to go to it now. :D :D

ETA2: Also, New England is GORGEOUS in the spring. I have so many beautiful pictures from my mum's visit last year during late April.

It looks like such a nice little out-of-the-way setting, but that's probably the reason why I won't go. I like destination settings, I confess. But not everyone does!

Hmm... You and [livejournal.com profile] daddybear716 are really tempting me with the flashbacks to the slash cabin, but that's the same weekend as Costume Con in New York. Hmm... I've tried setting up another get together but the one in KC kinda fizzled on us. Maybe we could try again this fall and pick a nice relaxing place in the woods and try again.

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 03:18 am (UTC)(link)

a con in our backyard--we'll definitely be there

[identity profile] sugareey.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I would soo love to go since New Hampshire isn't too bad to drive to, and if the area where the hotel hasn't changed, well, I've been camping around there before, so I know it a bit.

I don't fancy going back to Florida for a while for Leaky and DiaCon would probs blow a hole in my bank account (as much as I would love to go!)

So, I want to say at least 70% sure. And I may potentially be dragging my boy with me (he's intrigued by the whole HP convention stuff).

[identity profile] akemi42.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
If you have any interest a con specifically for HP slash, there are things materializing in Seattle. I will send you an evite to the Yahoo Group as your input would be appreciated.

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome! I'm definitely interested!
