Vote for Sarah Hoffman

Babble.com is having a contest called "Moms Who are Changing Your World" in which people can vote for inspirational moms. One of the nominees in the Activism category is Sarah Hoffman, who blogs about having a genderqueer child and is working to raise awareness of the needs of non-gender-conforming children.

If you have a FB account, go HERE to vote for Sarah and show your support. Voting ends September 20! :-)

I wish I could in good conscious participate, but many lactivists are boycotting Babble now because their "breastfeeding support line" is really the Similac helpline, and their whole breastfeeding page is designed to get women to formula feed. Formula advertising is bad enough when it's in the open, but this underhandedness is just not acceptable.

I get that, but I also believe in subverting things like this by promoting a queer agenda that might otherwise not get a heck of a lot of attention. Sort of like when that Canadian radio station had the contest to give away a boob job, and even though that's a horribly sexist premise, fandom and queer communities all went in and skewed the vote to the extent that a transwoman won the contest. She got 80% of the vote in a conservative area, which sends a strong message. I look at this similarly. :-)
