I've been away from the HP fandom for three years, more or less, and one of my fears about getting involved again was that there would be no one left to squee about H/D stuff with. I am so, SO happy that this was not the case. I mean seriously, check out this list of planned H/D fests in the next year (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] vaysh11).

The H/D part of fandom is still amazingly active, and though it's definitely a smaller community than it was five years ago, it feels tighter somehow. It seems like everyone knows everyone else, and I haven't yet sensed the same level of politics and BNF-ery that there used to be. Maybe it's there and I just haven't seen it yet, but I sincerely hope not.

I'm so excited to be back, and so grateful that everyone has been so incredibly welcoming. I'm looking forward to getting to know new friends and reading and writing lots of fic!

I'm so amazed that there are still new people coming into this fandom after all this time!

I for one didn't know that fan fiction existed in this form before I discovered this fandom.

I have read books that was fan fiction to books that no longer has copyrights on them, but I didn't know of fandom existing online.

Now that I have discovered it I'm hooked.

That happened for me in 2002. I'd been writing fanfic my entire life, and had no idea other people did it too until I saw a mention of fanfic in a letter to the editor of an issue of the Star Wars fan mag. I kind of went 0_0, and googled immediately. The first fic I found was very explicit Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan slash, and that was it. I was hooked.

But the best part of finding fandom was finding the community of people who all loved the same thing and squeed together. It was so amazing! And almost 9 years (!) later, I'm still here. :-)
