If Sanjaya wins...

http://ifsanjayawins.com/

Some of my favorites from there:

If Sanjaya wins, I'll remind myself that an untalented "idol" is better than a dumbass President.

If Sanjaya wins, I will renounce my homosexuality, vote conservative Republican, listen to Rush Limbaugh every day for the rest of my life, marry a sweet, young southern baptist girl and move to Arkansas to raise our family in a trailer park.

If Sanjaya wins, I'm gonna need what ever drugs Paula is on!

If Sanjaya wins, the Apocalypse will occur immediately after his "victory," God will appear, tell us all we've been punk'd, and all human existence will cease to be. So long humanity...so long.

If Sanjaya wins, Ryan will start dating women.

If Sanjaya wins, I will send Simon a letter every day asking him when he's going to quit. Because we all know he won't.

So, what would you do? ;-)

If he win, it's because people like Howard Stern who plead to his listeners to call in and vote for this guy. I honestly don't see how he made it tot he show to begin with, other than his infectious personality.

I don't watch the show, so if he wins, oh well. He will be another Ruben, who really hasn't produced anything worthy of an American Idol, unlike, Clay Akins, Fantasia and Kelly Clarkson. He won't have the fortitude to continue once the show is finished.

This is the first time I've ever watched, and it seems much more like a freaky reality show than a serious attempt at picking a talented new singing star. It's like a musical Survivor, or something. :-P

It's really become pathetic. All of it. Reality shows have died their death but no one wants to tell them.

yea, the sad thing is it wasnt like that last season (imo at least), which was my first season.

I think I will laugh too. This is the first time I've ever watched the show, and I'm not really into the style of music they seem to be going after here. For example, I LOVED Hayley's and Phil's renditions of classics the other night, and the judges hated them. I like that very theatrical sound, I guess, and I have great respect for artists who can do it well. I don't understand why they like Chris so much, because I don't think he's a particularly good singer.

So I guess I don't feel like I have much of a stake in the outcome of the show. I think the people who are truly talented will have careers because they've gotten enough exposure already to build a fan base. Melinda, for example, is going to be a star, no matter what happens. Sanjaya will be famous for being the contestant that broke AI, but not for much else. He'll be the subject of a Where Are They Now? segment on VH-1 in 20 years, and we'll all go, "Oh, yeah! that was some crazy shit" and have a good laugh.

IMO. ;-)

That's kind of like what William Hung was. Except he was more famous for his audition and how much it sucked. ;-)

If he wins I am not watching the show ever again.

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
If he wins, it may never be on again! :=P

[identity profile] wickedsix.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Who is Sanjaya and what are they winning?

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry -- it's American Idol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idol), and Sanjaya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanjaya_Malakar) is a sweet but relatively untalented contestant whom the American public seem to be keeping on the show just for sheer entertainment value. Or masochism, depending on your perspective. :-P

[identity profile] wickedsix.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, I had no idea American Idol was still even going on! or that people cared so much about it, for that matter! lol. I've never watched it as I hardly watch any TV anyway. I looked at that Wikipedia article, he seems to have a pretty snazzy hairdo, though!

*head-desk*

I don't even know what to say anymore about him. This is all just unreal.

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It's my first time watching, so I was thinking it was always like this. Apparently not?

[identity profile] yaycoffee.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
If Sanjaya wins, I'll think that America maybe, just maybe, has finally stopped taking this show so seriously. This is a case of Americans messing with ourselves. Maybe his continued presence on the show says something about us placating the Very Brave And Sweet But Not So Much Aware Of The World Around Them?

My only question is WHY THE HELL ARE HALEY AND PHIL STILL ON? I'd take Sanjaya over them ANY day. Haley is like a beauty pagaent contestant, and Phil is just fifty shades of creepAY. At least Sanjaya is comfortable being HIM.

[identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a case of Americans messing with ourselves.

Yeah, I really agree with that. I haven't watched the show before, and I always thought it was sort of a bizarrely effective marketing strategy more than a real talent competition. If Americans are getting tired of the show, then it's over. It should go out with a bang.

Aw, I like Phil and Haley! I like their voices, but they seem not to be the sort of singers who go far in AI. I don't get Chris at all. I have no idea why the judges love him so much. But then, I don't think I'm the target audience anyway. :-P

I'll probably laugh.

Mind you I've never seen AI and don't especially care one way or the other.

This is some kind of reality-TV show, right? So enlighten me -- what's so fun about reality-TV? I missed the boat on this one, since we stopped subscribing to television long before Survivor started (which is the first one I can remember). :)

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2007-04-06 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I don't watch, but I've heard about this. You know what I say? You know who seems to be bitching the loudest? Guys. Well, guess what: there have been plenty of so-so female singers who succeed just because they have pretty faces and big hair and big tits, and women have been suffering through that shit for-freaking-EVER, so, you know what, guys? Shuttup. Shoe's on the other foot; you can deal with it and just shuttup right now.

*is entitled to a sexist opinion once in a while*

If Sanjaya wins, it will be partially be because of sites like ifsanjayawins.com. The fact that people are making such a big deal about why he's still around perhaps ironically makes him stay longer. There have always been less talented contestants that have outlasted more talented contestants on this show: Nikki McKibbin, Carmen Rassmussen, Kevin Cobais, the heavyset guy who beat up his girlfriend whose name I forgot and a bunch of others whose names I also forgot but I've also forgot everything else about them as well. ;) None of them actually won though. And the winner has also been my favorite only one season (the first one), I will concede every other season the winner has had real singing talent (even Taylor Hicks who I hated.)
Will this year be different? I gotta admit Sanjaya has a certain self awareness that the previous examples did not. The way he's gone from this insecure looking kid to this rather charming little comedian who's totally owning his situation makes me love him a little. Not enough to vote for him though because I completely love both Melinda and Jordin in a Kelly Clarkson/Jennifer Hudson kinda way. And then Sanjaya is getting all this attention; and people who have never watched the show are hearing about Sanjaya now. And you know what? I think some of them may tune into the show and vote for Sanjaya. And no matter what Simon says (hee), that's ultimately good for the show and he knows that too. It's all about ratings really. Also, my favorites who didn't win ended up doing pretty well for themselves so far (some more than others.) And I don't begrudge Sanjaya whatever he can gain from this either. He seems like a sweet kid and more power to him. He's certainly very entertaining lately. :)

OMG. AAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!

That is all.
