1. I spent a good chunk of yesterday and today cleaning out and reorganizing BG's playroom. It had become a space that we just shoved toys into and shut the door, and he hasn't been able to use it as a play space much at all in recent months. Part of the problem was that the room was dominated by a train table that he hasn't really used in years, and it was covered with toys that needed to be put away. Hell, the entire FLOOR was covered with toys that needed putting away. You could barely walk in there. But I spent a good 8-10 hours on it over the weekend, and it's now an open space he can play in. We ended up keeping all the train stuff, ironically enough: once we got the table out of the room and cleared the floor, one of the first things BG wanted to do was set up an elaborate network of train tracks. I realized that the table had limited his train play, rather than given him a space for it. Anyway, he's been happily playing with trains and legos for hours now, and it's amazing. Tomorrow I'm making a trip to IKEA for a few more things I need to finish the organization, and then I'll post pictures. :-)

2. We went to our favorite local ramen joint for lunch today for the first time in months, and OH SO GOOD. BG ate an entire adult portion. It was insane. I don't have a clue where he put it.

3. The cats continue to have territorial standoffs, but it's slowly getting better. The new cat (Plum) is not allowed in the bedroom at night, which gives the old cat (Lucy) a chance to cuddle in peace. During the day, Lucy sleeps somewhere and only emerges to eat, while Plum follows us around and plays and is generally entertaining. So it's kind of like we have a night cat and a day cat!

Plum is actually really sweet and cuddly when Lucy isn't around.

It's surprisingly difficult to take good pictures of a black cat, My camera doesn't easily focus on her, and I take about 5 pictures for every one that turns out. Most of them look like this:

She reminds me of our Gabi (who passed away a year and a half ago) so much. There have been a few moments when I wondered if we'd done the right thing adopting her, but every day she feels like more a part of the family. :-)

I'm loving your positivity posts. I've been reading, but so wrapped up with writing I know I missed commenting on a few people I follow. Kitties are so cute! I hope your eye is improving after the rude awakening earlier. Playroom challenges... Been there too. Ikeas cube storage shelves have proved a godsend in my house. Older son keeps his Lego sets in clear tubs that fit just right and I've established a rule of no more than three out at a time. Before you couldn't even go into the room without painful Lego in foot accidents and he'd started moving in on my territory.
Kudos for reclaimed space!

We really need to work on putting things away with BG. He's 6, so he's well past capable of that. The playroom has lots of storage along the walls and colorful bins, and his typical approach to finding something is to dump out the entire bin, sift through its contents, and then leave the pile on the floor while he plays with whatever he was looking for. So yeah, we need to work on that.

I bought him a label-maker with the idea that he would enjoy labeling all of his bins, and that would probably help him not only find things, but also encourage him to out them back where they belong again. We'll see!

Awww, Plum is so adorable! It's surprisingly difficult to get good photos of black cats, you're right. The lighting has to be just right...and then she moves at the very last second, lol. I like the first picture best, though!

My camera won't focus on her, and then many that are clear look overexposed. I'm not a good photographer anyway, but this isa new challenge!

Plum is lovely! She looks like my Veronica did when she was younger. I love black cats (we have two) and you're right, they are hard to take good pictures of. I have to make sure their eyes are open, otherwise my pics all turn out looking like black furry lumps; with the eyes they're easier to distinguish as black furry cat-lumps.

Awwwwww, Plum is a sweetie! And you did really well with those pictures, those are really good. :)

Heyyy, your laptop has a number pad on it! How do you like that? Does the keyboard feel weird at all (like, do you constantly feel like you're reaching/leaning to the left)? I really miss having a number pad, and I like the idea of getting more screen size, but I'm so picky about keyboards...

I am eagerly anticipating my days of toy wrangling. :D

You should see how many bad pictures I deleted from my phone!

You know, I don't use the number pad at all. It's just a whole area of my keyboard that my fingers don't even know to go to. Actually, I take that back: on the rare occasion that I've had to enter numbers into a spreadsheet, I've used the number pad, but that's it. But yes, I love the screen size of this computer!

Ah, toy wrangling... It's a constant business these days. But I remember back in the IF days, we had a wine-tasting party and some neighbors came over and said, "Well, it's obvious you don't have kids!" It's the little comments sometimes, isn't it? So you know, I'm not complaining so much as managing it all. :-)

Aw, of course you did the right thing in adopting Plum. I always go through that "oh shit, what was I THINKING?!" spell when I bring in a new cat, too. Then, within a couple of months, you can't imagine NOT having that particular cat in your home and in your life. Good luck!

It's slowly getting better. The thing is, I remember all those years ago when we got Lucy and how it took our then-older cat Gabi almost a year before she'd let the kitten within ten feet of her. They're still not getting along, but it's going SO much better than it did the last time I did this. I know they'll get there!

Plum is a real beauty. Her eyes are gorgeous and I totally adore black cats. If I ever get one, I'll name her licorice (in German). All sorted. Just need the kitty. LOL

Yay for kitty pics! I'm so glad to hear it's slowly getting better with them. Hopefully in the near future they'll be relaxed and at ease in each others' company.
